Designing Your Home With a "Green" Theme

Wendy Edwards

June 2010

If you have had the notion that decorating with Green products is only for the organic at heart, think again.  The days of “ugly” when related to green products for your home are over.

Many vendors and manufacturers have embraced the opportunity to make green products attractive as well as functional.  Hunter Douglas, a leader in its industry, has recently unveiled its new eco-friendly window coverings made completely of recycled pop bottles.  Furniture companies have followed suit with Kravet furniture producing a line of furniture that is “Eco-Smart” using soy based foam and recycled fiber cushioning.

For the complete green experience, finish with one of the many flooring options available from key manufactures (such as Shaw, Mohawk and Teregran) that uses renewable resources for base product in carpet and hard surfaces.  QU-Cork, the ultimate experience in cork floorings (it doesn’t look like your bulletin board), is completely sustainable.  Cork is the outer bark of the Evergreen Cork Oak.  Its bark is harvested every nine years without damaging the tree in any way.  Cork harvesting remains one of the best examples of a sustainable agro-forestry system.

Just say no to landfills and embrace the beautiful array of green products now available to you our consumer. Don’t forget to talk to your financial planner or tax accountant about the different benefits you can get for incorporating these many green products into your environment.

Roses are still the most dominant floral motif, but look for cherries to be seen in many designer showrooms as well.
